LondonEnergy Ltd (LEL) has become the first British energy and waste management company to achieve the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard.

Attaining the highest possible ‘Excellence’ level of the Good Work Standard reflects LondonEnergy’s sustained commitment to creating the highest possible working conditions and the dedication to the wellbeing of its team.

The Good Work Standard is the flagship element of the Mayor’s programme to make London the best city in the world in which to work. It sets the benchmark for high employment standards with a series of criteria relating to fair pay and conditions, workplace wellbeing, skills and progression, and diversity and recruitment.

Commenting on the Mayor’s decision to award LondonEnergy the Good Work Standard the company’s Managing Director, Peter Sharpe, said: “LondonEnergy has been a London Living Wage employer for some time but we realised this wasn’t enough and we had a huge opportunity to create a fair and supportive culture in which our people could develop their careers.

One of our core values is “own it” and this achievement recognises the effort of the whole team who took responsibility for ensuring that we go above and beyond in making LondonEnergy a great place to work. The Good Work Standard sets a high benchmark for our performance as an employer and I’m confident it will ensure we continue to attract and retain the highest calibre people across the business.”

Deputy Mayor for Business, Rajesh Agrawal, said: “My congratulations to LondonEnergy on becoming the first British energy and waste management company to become accredited to the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard. “The company joins a growing community of London’s most dynamic and forward-thinking employers making a clear commitment to providing a healthy, fair and inclusive workplace for their staff. “Sadiq and I continue to urge all London’s employers to sign up and become accredited to the Good Work Standard.” In addition to setting a high bar for accredited employers, the Good Work Standard also brings together best practice and support from across London to help employers improve their organisations. It has the support of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
