Mattress Recycling Scheme Nominated for Prestigious Award

Published

It’s great to see that the mattress recycling service we provide to residents has been recognised in the prestigious ‘Awards for Excellence’ organised by letsreycle.com.

An estimated 7 million mattresses are thrown away every year, of which only 20% are recycled.  The LondonEnergy scheme, working in partnership with NLWA, see us divert around 250 mattresses every day from landfill! This impressive performance reduces emissions of greenhouse gases and ensures that these valuable resources are made available for use in more sustainable products in the future.

Commenting on the news Jim Kendall said: “This shortlisting recognises the efforts of whole operations team and in particular those working at the RRC’s which provide a collection point for residents’ mattresses. Mattress recycling makes perfect environmental and commercial sense as over 85% of the material can be recycled. This leaves only a small proportion that can still be diverted from landfill via waste to energy.  Best of luck the LEL/NLWA team and everyone shortlisted at the awards in May.”

The Awards for Excellence bring together over 400 people at Grosvenor Hotel in London and are one of the most highly regarded events in the UK waste and recycling calendar.
