To carry out our waste management activities, we operate a fleet of four light electrical commercial vehicles and 31 trucks.
Our vehicles are on the road every day. By combining the latest safety features and practices to reduce our fuel usage, we keep our emissions to a minimum.
The impact of emissions on climate change is becoming more and more apparent. We want to play our part in a greener future, which is why we have invested over £3 million in modernising our fleet of vehicles.
When we're on the road, your safety and that of our drivers is paramount.
All our lorries and trailers are equipped with forward, side, and rear-view cameras, so our drivers have maximum visibility. An audible warning alarm and side panels provide extra protection for pedestrians and cyclists.
We are doing our best to minimise the environmental impact of our fleet by reducing the emissions of our HGVs by using a Gas-to-Liquid fuel which is virtually free of sulphur, the principal cause of diesel pollution.
In addition, the routes taken by our drivers are continuously monitored to make sure they're using the safest and most fuel-efficient ones possible. Plus, all our drivers complete regular e-learning and physical training to make sure they drive in a safe and fuel-efficient way.
We have several BMW i3 zero-emission sustainable electric vehicles. Manufactured using 100% energy from renewable sources, they run exclusively on battery power, and 95% of the materials used to produce the car are recyclable.
These provide a travelling range of 125 miles from a single charge, emit low noise levels, and are energy efficient. We have charging points on-site powered by the electricity generated from household waste at our energy plant.
When transporting items to our reuse shop, we use an electric Renault Master ZE large van. By the end of 2021, we plan to move all our vans over to electric power. This will help us reduce carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, in line with the Mayor of London's Environmental Strategy.
