I served in the British Army for ten years, leaving as a Major in late 2012. I loved my time in the forces and developed many transferable skills, including problem-solving, planning and thinking under pressure. The Army also taught me the fundamentals of team-building and leadership, the importance of maintaining high standards, and why the little things matter.

In 2019 I was looking for a career change. A sense of purpose was something I felt had been missing since I left the army so I began looking closely at sustainability and found LondonEnergy.

From the outset, LondonEnergy made me feel valued, and the people and culture continue to stand out. Although no organisation is perfect and there is still plenty to do, the absence of ego makes working here a pleasure. We recognise that we have an important job: managing North London’s waste as sustainably as possible while delivering value for money for its residents. That responsibility presents significant challenges, but the people I work with consistently put the team and the organisation ahead of themselves. That is rare—and it is what makes LondonEnergy stand out.

Finally, our future is secure with new facilities being built and an exciting vision in place for well into the 2060s and beyond. Whilst no-one pretends ours is the most glamorous sector, the requirement for the services we provide will continue long into the future and we are well prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
