We’re reflecting on the success of our ongoing Pathfinder mentoring programme as we get ready to welcome a new cohort of students next month.
In partnership with Wiseup Networks, the programme is designed to build confidence and boost employability while breaking down barriers to the workplace in our local North London community. It’s also an opportunity for students to understand the wide range of career opportunities available within the waste management sector and gain insights into how LondonEnergy is contributing to a more circular economy.
Starting with just five students in its pilot year, the programme has grown annually, supporting 10 students in 2024 and 20 in 2024/2025. Here’s some of what we’ve achieved since our pilot programme:
- 35 students mentored
- 140 hours of mentoring delivered
- 20 days of on-site experience at our EcoPark
- 900+ new professional connections made
- 35+ LondonEnergy volunteers involved
The impact has been significant, with 100% of students in our latest cohort citing increased confidence. The greatest improvement was seen in workplace understanding and awareness of different jobs available.
“My mentor was incredible. They were dedicated and approachable, working hard to maintain my comfort whilst also pushing me to challenge my boundaries. She provided me with brilliant resources to support my future,” one of the mentees said.
A big thank you to all our colleagues who volunteered their time to support the next generation in our local community. We can’t wait to welcome our next cohort of students in May.
