Local initiative distributes over 1,400 books to community members
Our ReUse Shop team has successfully completed their second annual Book Giveaway campaign, reinforcing our commitment to promoting literacy while supporting environmental sustainability in the community.
The summer initiative saw 1,400 preloved books find new homes with ReUse Shop customers. A total of 255 books were donated directly to a local primary school, ensuring young readers in North London have improved access to quality reading materials.
“This campaign perfectly embodies our mission,” said Katie Blowes, Waste Operations Manager. “We’re not just extending the life of books that might otherwise end up in landfill – we’re actively supporting literacy and education in our community.”
The Book Giveaway represents the broader impact of the ReUse Shop’s work in promoting the circular economy. By encouraging the reuse of preloved items, the shop helps reduce waste while creating genuine social value for residents across North London.
The success of this year’s campaign builds on the momentum from last year’s initial giveaway, demonstrating growing community engagement with both literacy initiatives and sustainable practices.
About the ReUse Shop: Located in Waltham Forest, the ReUse Shop extends the life of preloved items, reduces waste, and promotes circular economy principles while creating social value for the North London community.
