LondonEnergy’s network of Reuse and Recycling Centres recorded their busiest summer on record, with nearly 286,000 visitors between June and September 2025, marking a 13% increase on the previous year.
The seven centres averaged more than 2,360 visitors daily during the four-month period, reflecting growing environmental consciousness across the boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington, and Waltham Forest.
Katie Blowes, Waste Operations Manager at LondonEnergy, praised residents for their commitment to sustainable waste management. “Your efforts are vital in helping us reduce waste and preserve valuable resources,” she said. “This plays a crucial role in developing a less wasteful and more circular economy, where materials are reused and recycled for future generations.”
What’s Driving the Increase?
The surge is attributed to several factors, including rising population levels, generational shifts toward sustainability, and awareness campaigns run by LondonEnergy and partner boroughs.
A significant contributor has been the opening of the new Recycling and Reuse Centre at LondonEnergy’s Edmonton EcoPark. The facility features innovative split-level bays that eliminate stairs, improving accessibility for all users. Weather-protective roofing and exterior fins provide shelter for both visitors and staff, while segregated drop-off zones accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicle users.
The Edmonton centre accepts over 150 different item types, from household waste and electrical appliances to garden refuse, making it one of the most comprehensive facilities in the network.
Where to Recycle
Residents can visit any of the seven locations across North London:
- Edmonton Reuse and Recycling Centre
- Barnet Summers Lane
- Camden Regis Road
- Islington Hornsey Street
- Haringey Western Road
- Waltham Forest Kings Road
- Waltham Forest South Access
The continued growth in visitor numbers suggests that North Londoners are increasingly embracing circular economy principles, helping divert valuable materials from landfill and contributing to regional sustainability targets.
